Hi, my name is Aden Bosko

I am a freelance filmmaker and Swinburne graduate.

About Me

Born in Adelaide, I spent 20 years there trying to figure what I wanted to do when I realised that my love for film and passion to create meant there was only one thing for me.

Creating movies.

On a whim, I applied to Swinburne and magically got accepted. I didn’t actually have a plan to move an entire state at that point but I like to think I work best being challenged, and here I am now loving it.

Studying through the pandemic wasn’t the most ideal of situations but again, it was a challenge. I’ve come out of the experience with an Advanced Diploma of Screen Media but more importantly lots of friends who are passionate about film like me and experiences that I will use throughout my entire career

So, what can I do?

In hand with some life skills I’ve picked up along the way, Swinburne taught me so much about the industry. Not only how to work effectively on a set but what goes into each stage of production and why the most important aspect of filmmaking is collaboration.

The course was run in such a way that provided us with assessments that were practical and realistic to what you would find in the industry. We worked on sets, ran our own projects, got client experience, and had to constantly work with our peers in a variety of roles.

Each year we also got to work on a major project, a short film where each student gets to focus on a single role for the production. I was extremely lucky and got to work as a writer/director in first year and a producer in the second.

They were a lot of work but I learned so much in these roles, most importantly about leading a crew and organising a production.

On top of that, both films were made in the midst of a pandemic. We were going through an experience no filmmaker had before but the art is all about problem solving and as I’ve mentioned, I thrive when being challenged.

On top of directing and producing on those films, I was able to get experience doing so much more while at Swinburne. Writing up and designing pitch documents in pre-production, on set working with lights as a gaffer, or deep in post, editing so many projects. My editing skills actually improved so much that I can now comfortably work myself around a timeline.

What I found the most fun about each project actually became production design. Creating a lived in and interesting world for our characters. From designing props like an entire newspaper to remodelling my bedroom to look like a punky teen’s dream. It was definitely these small things that I found the most fun in.
